内容記述 Indonesia’s tropical rainforests host exceptionally high biodiversity and are dominated by dipterocarp species. Production forests in these ecosystems are managed through a selective-logging silvicultural system designed to retain sufficient regeneration trees for the next rotation while maintaining high biodiversity and a multi-aged, multi-species, and multi-strata structure. However, wood production in tropical rainforests has declined in the second and third rotations, partly because residual stands show slow diameter increments of <1 cm per year. To increase secondary-forest productivity, enrichment planting using commercially valuable native species has been promoted. Suitable species include Shorea leprosula, S. platyclados, S. macrophylla, S. parvifolia, S. johorensis, and S. stenoptera, which exhibit diameter increments >1.5 cm per year and survival rates above 70%. Enrichment planting in secondary tropical rainforests can be implemented through selective logging and line-planting systems (TPTJ) combined with intensive silviculture. Beyond improving productivity, enrichment planting helps maintain and enhance genetic diversity in logged-over tropical forests and supports the conservation of native species. After 25 years, such forests can sequester approximately 139.52 tons of carbon per hectare. Overall, implementing enrichment planting through selective logging and line-planting systems using native species is expected to improve forest productivity, maintain genetic diversity, and enhance carbon sequestration in logged-over forests.
